eine compilation eines der nun wirklich am konsequentesten releasenden netzlabel im eher minimal orientierten bereich und eine compilation, die minimal dub endlich auch mal wieder so lässig und breitwandig cool klingen lässt, dass man sofort drin untergeht und jeden der tracks bis ins letzte knistern ausschöpfen möchte. mit dabei falter (krill.minima), lufth, selfish, off the ski, rasmus moebius, periskop, chronolux, taho, digitalis und benfay, und nicht einer der tracks enttäuscht, sondern jeder entwickelt in seinem eigenen sound zwischen extrem ruhigen, fast geflüsterten dubs und clickrigem rauschen eine welt, die smoother kaum sein könnte. minimal dub platte des monats für mich. wie immer als 192kbps qualitäts mp3s auf der webseite.

once i said that thinner was a label of the year for 2002. and probably for the next couple of years. i started to follow their music and ideology from their very own start and from then i haven′t stopped supporting them endlessly. they have a particular unique sound, that is like their id, but every release is in different mood and different direction. they are evidently in dub revival process with their sound, mixing many styles of contemporary music. from tech house, ambiental structures, trancey moments, ordinary techno… all that penetrated with their recognizable contemporary dubby production. the best thing with thinner releases, despite their style intention, is that each of them is in its own direction giving another perspective of thinner aspects no matter if it is more rhythmic, ambiental or banging. that was the case with some of their last releases thn032 (simex) or thn035 (and.id) that was more dance floor oriented, but from another side thn037 (lufth) was more in soundscape direction. thinner went to their 39th release! another compilation. silent season dub (thn039). this is the case where thinner style is in background soundscape slow mood. this compilation continues with the sound from a previous release (thn038, krill.minima). it′s completely minimalistic ambient structured dubby background music. perfect for filling the space around you with long warm atmospheres. fine, calm, soft, warm, beautiful, sophisticated mindscape soundtrack. smooth, long variations of one theme: trip through gorgeous places of the world. although there was some calm and ambiental releases on thinner before this is something new. there wasn′t so much calm stuff. this is thinner collective perspectives of the shimmer glare of summer. on this compilation among artists that have appearances on thinner releases by now, you can find some that haven′t been in the crew. chronolux (dave ellesmere, kanzleramt), taho (substatic, f-com), lufth (sensual physics, source), selffish, digitalis, benfay, falter (thinner)… are completing eleven pieces of monolith beauty. and if there is still need… a definition in one sentence: "versatile summer dub compilation with excursions into deep ambient".

thinner is a german net label distributing dub inspired electronic music in the form of mp3 files via http://thinnerism.com, though the artists here are widespread through europe the main feel is distinctly northern. for the digitally educated musos amongst us this may be just another game of spot the pre-sets at play in the processing of digital sound. but for the rest of us digitally-challenged dumb punters as long as we can follow the reassuringly friendly download instructions then the result turns out to be a rich seam of glacially cool glitchdub, all smooth wavy surfaces, distant promises and long, dreamy endings. falter is martin juhls from dortmund who also contributes as krill.minima, either way he′s the dubbiest of the cast with stretched landscaped delays and wide valleys of reverbs in ′nachtflug′ and ′palmengasse′. another creator of icy visions is andrew eigus aka selffish from riga, latvia, but more compositional in approach, ′static cloud′ proves his time as a child chorister helped remove the fear of the human voice common across the laptop generation. bernese benfay′s ′falke′ threatens to develop into an unknown house sub-genre before pulling back from the brink, but favourite track has got to be off the sky′s ′non linear surface tensions (stratus variate)′ - for the title alone. log on and chillout.

the compilation ′silent season dub′ offers more of the same. martin juhl is present here as krill minima and falter. other artists (lufth, selffish, off the sky, and more) offer pieces that are very much in the same vein: dreamy and languid music. as if the music comes from one and the same artist.

assez de roots: ici, ce serait plutôt le genre monolake meets kit clayton era "lateral forces". pas exactement joyeux, mais brillant. Ça va pas tarder à coller à la saison, dès qu′elle se décidera à être l′hiver. et non seulement c′est réussi, mais en plus c′est gratuit: allez voir là: http://www.thinnerism.com, et c′est la release thn039, qui, comme toutes les autres si je ne m′abuse, peut être librement téléchargée. pas de la fraude, juste de l′altruisme. et croyez-m′en, si vous aimez le genre, tout le bastringue vaut le coup.

ebenfalls auf sehr hohem niveau ist der sampler silent season dub, der zwar dub referenziert oft aber mehr nach electronica-ambvient klingt. dub deutet sich in vielen tracks allenfalls an; durch soundraffinnesse oder den gelegentlich plunkernden bass. ansonsten schnurrt diese musik wie eine zufriedene katze vor dem kamin. alles in butter also.
