montréal night grooves
eloi brunelle might ring a bell with his contribution to last years impact cityguide „montréal smoked meat“ on force inc. the following successful tour across europe (together with pheek), made him playing in the fabric (london) or batofar (paris), so it was no question to return to europe again this summer for the revival, and also to visit mannheim in between a couple of gigs in switzerland.
the all-around eloi, who just released a new album by mateo murphy on his own imprint epsilonlab, delivers four tight and deep cuts to thinner, that represent the funky-deep techhouse of brunelle and show off what grooves kick best in montréals clubs these nights.

eloi brunelle is even more direct house music. beats and background atmospheres again, but (also again) with all dance and up-beat rhythms, this thinner-music still manages to be transparent, airy and thinner, for both listening and dancing. eloi is another montrealer. the atmosphere on his ep is quite allright in the first 2 tracks, but the last 2 tracks is where the real groove is happening. the third track, called blackout (not radio:), has a distinctive bass line. hakan lidbo comes to mind (again), with a jump-up track like natty roots. the last track starts with some motor-like samples in the first few seconds but very soon the beat starts. some djs would enjoy playing this music in different places, clubs, cafes...

having served time on one of the recent excellent force inc compilations, eloi brunelle shows us his take on tech-house. not sounding a million miles away from the likes of layo & bushwacka and laurent garnier, he still manages to make objects move in sync. opener ′moch′ is standard fare, whilst ′or′ adds unprocessed rhythmic know-how to treated guitar. functional and fashionable, this may lack the sophistication of his peers (akufen) but is pleasant nonetheless.
